Message from Our Executive Director

Michael Green

Greetings!

Education changes lives. It increases an individual’s income. A trained workforce is critical to grow any economy and attract new business to our area. I hear from graduates and alumni every day, how New River Community and Technical College has been a game-changer for them personally.

Recently, I have been given the rewarding challenge to serve as Executive Director of the Foundation of New River Community and Technical College. Many of you I have met in my former capacity as the State Senator representing Raleigh and Wyoming Counties in the West Virginia Senate. I hope to have the opportunity to get to know each you and enlist your support and interest in growing this institution and our area’s economy.

As a life-long resident of southern West Virginia, I have been actively involved in our community. I have served as a police officer for nearly a decade early in my professional career. I’ve also managed several businesses. From my experience in the Senate and operating businesses in the private sector, I’ve come to understand how important higher education – whether it’s a four-year college degree or a certification in a technical job – is to the future of Southern West Virginia and its ability to attract and keep people of all ages living and working here.

During my time in public service, I was an ardent supporter of New River CTC and I look forward to supporting and assisting the entire College in my new role. New River Community Technical College is changing lives. I need your help in expanding its ability to improve the lives of our family, friends and neighbors.

As the state continues to reduce funding for higher education, the role of the Foundation will take on a more significant role in assisting our students, faculty and each of the communities we serve. I know together, with the help of friends and donors such as yourself, we will succeed. I look forward to working with you and I encourage you to give me your feedback and share your experiences. Please feel free to reach out to me with any question or suggestions.

Sincerely,

Michael Green,

Executive Director of Foundation

History

New River Community and Technical College was founded July 1, 2003 by enactment of the WV Legislature and was independently accredited February 8, 2005, by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.  New River serves a nine-county area including Fayette, Greenbrier, Mercer, Monroe, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Raleigh, Summers and Webster Counties.  The college has quickly established itself as an organization providing solutions to its students and businesses throughout southeastern West Virginia.  It returns an exceptional value to the area through not only educational and developmental benefits to its students, but also through its economic, cultural, and civic impact on the community.

The New River Community and Technical College Foundation was established in 2007 and is committed to complementing the college’s efforts in providing quality higher education and enhanced workplace skills, optimizing student access to education programs and services, and providing a margin of excellence unavailable with state and federal funds.  The Foundation provides permanent scholarship endowments and pass-through funds that provide annual scholarships to low-income students for the current and future years.  Some investments are used to fund student needs rather than endowments.  Our approach to filling the educational gaps existing in our service area is unique by saying we do “whatever it takes” to change lives for the better, forever.

Mission of the New River Community and Technical College Foundation

The mission of the Foundation is to secure financial resources that complement New River Community and Technical College’s efforts in providing higher education and enhanced workplace skills, to optimize student access to educational programs, and to provide a margin of excellence unavailable with state and federal funds.

Vision

We envision a community, where through availability and excellence in education resources, individuals and families will achieve their potential, have income stability, and become productive members of their communities.
