Scholarship Application Checklist:
I herewith authorize New River Community and Technical College to provide the New River Community and Technical College Foundation access to my complete file, including application for admission, financial aid application, statements of fees and tuition, and records of financial aid awarded from all sources. The information provided on this application form and in all attachments is true and correct, to the best of my knowledge. I understand this application does not guarantee I will receive a New River Community and Technical College Foundation scholarship.
The Carolyn Browning Social Service Scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Carolyn Browning, an Associate Professor at New River Community and Technical College’s Beckley campus.
The Established by the Wheeler family to provide educational opportunity. Mr. Paul C. Wheeler endowed this scholarship for deserving New River Community and Technical College students.
The Wendy’s Adoption Scholarship was established to assist students who have been adopted or have been in a foster care program.
The Wendy’s Adoption Scholarship was established to assist students who have been adopted or have been in a foster care program. Secondary preference will be given to employees of Wendy’s and their immediate family members.
The Student Government Association Scholarship was established to assist students attending New River Community and Technical College who have demonstrated leadership skills.
The J. Leroy Spring Scholarship was established by former New River CTC President, Dr. Ted Spring, in memory of his uncle.
The Neighborhood Investment Program scholarships are made possible by generous donors to assist students with financial need.
The George and Helen Aide Scholarship was established to assist students attending New River Community and Technical College who demonstrate a financial need.
The Veronica Blanton Nursing Scholarship was endowed by the Alicia McCormick Fund as a perpetual memorial to Veronica Blanton.
The Joan C. Browning Community Service Scholarship was established to award students who have engaged in volunteer services to their community in the Greenbrier Valley.
The Judy D. Campbell Scholarship was endowed by Michael G. Campbell and was established to assist students who are residents of Greenbrier, Monroe, or Pocahontas counties.
The Greg Carter Hometown Hero was endowed by Roger and Phyllis Boone as a permanent memorial to Fairlea Volunteer Fireman, Greg Scott Carter.
The Gail C. Collins Scholarship was established by Victor and Catherine Jost and friends of Gail C. Collins.
The D. Reginald and Nelle C. Dixon Scholarship was endowed to support and aid students who are attending courses on the Greenbrier Valley campus.
The Benjamin Fort Teacher Scholarship was established by Dr. and Mrs. Kyle and Ann Fort in honor of Dr. Fort’s father in an effort to encourage and enable students who aspire to teaching careers
The Madlyn E. Fort Health Sciences Scholarship was established by Dr. and Mrs. Kyle and Ann Fort as a perpetual memorial to Dr. Fort’s mother, Madlyn E. Fort. One full-time scholarship and four part-time scholarships will be awarded.
The Greenbrier Hospitality Scholarship was established by The Greenbrier for a student entering the hospitality industry.
The Jeanne and Lawson Hamilton Scholarship was established to assist student attending New River Community and Technical College.
The Herkness Mathematics Scholarship was endowed by Mr. and Mrs. Wayne and Eleanor “Muffy” Herkness to assist students studying mathematics curriculum.
The Hollowell Scholarships were established by the Board of Directors of the Hollowell Foundation to promote and enhance the quality of life for citizens of the Greenbrier Valley. Multiple scholarships are available and may be used towards tuition, laboratory fees, and books.
Applicants must type a one-page letter describing a past accomplishment that makes them proud and an explanation of their future goals.
The Babe and Sidney Louis Hyatt Scholarship was established for students who share the Hyatt brothers’ interests, which included agriculture, business, religious fidelity, reading, respect for family and community traditions, and self-improvement.
Honoring the Jewish faith was important to the Hyatt brothers and the notions of righteousness they valued; therefore, applicants must read about the Jewish folklore of the “Thirty-Six Hidden Saints” and submit an original 500-word, typed essay describing someone they know whose life reminds them of these saints. Reference materials are available in the Greenbrier Valley campus library.
The Helen Virginia Chadwick Irons Scholarship was endowed by Kate Fife, Thomas Greenstreet, and Virginia Wilson to assist a female student attending New River Community and Technical College.
The Mary Louise and Jim Kilcollin Scholarship was endowed by Dr. and Mrs. Mark and Debra Kilcollin in memory of Dr. Kilcollin’s parents.
The Dr. Richard and Ann Kline Scholarship was established by Dr. and Mrs. Richard and Ann Kline to assist a student attending New River Community and Technical College.
The Edward D. Knight Scholarship was established by Mrs. E.D. Knight, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Knight, III to assist a student attending New River Community and Technical College.
The Katherine Patterson Scholarship was established by Dr. and Mrs. Kyle and Ann Fort in honor of Mrs. Fort’s mother to assist students attending New River Community and Technical College.
The Marie Leist Foundation Scholarship was established to assist a student attending New River Community and Technical College.
Founded in memory of an acclaimed businessman to assist minority students. Clarence A. “Bussie” Allen operated Brown’s Transfer Company and served on President Jimmy Carter’s Small Business Task Force. The scholarship was established in his memory to assist minority students at New River Community and Technical College.
The David B. McClung Scholarship is offered by the Greenbrier Valley Dental Association to promote and enable students pursuing careers in the healthcare industry.
The McElhenney-Fry-Kirven Scholarship was given to the Greenbrier Community College Foundation, Inc. by the Elizabeth Fry and Dupont Kirven Foundation to honor the Reverend John and Mrs. Rebecca Walkup McElhenney, organizers of the Lewisburg Academy in 1812, which is now the Greenbrier Valley campus of New River Community and Technical College. This scholarship is awarded on the basis of student achievement and aspirations in academic, leadership, and citizenship, and is not awarded on the basis of financial need.
Applicants must submit a typewritten essay (1,000 word limit) reflecting on the particular values shown in the life of Reverend John and Mrs. Rebecca Walkup McElhenney and how one or more of those values are reflected in the applicants academic, leadership, and citizenship achievements and aspirations.
The Horace McGraw Scholarship was endowed by Mr. Joe McGraw in memory of his father.
The David and Bertha Moshy Scholarship was endowed by Dr. Joseph Moshy in honor of his parents.
The Mary B. Nickell Scholarship was established by the Mary B. Nickell Foundation to assist students who share Ms. Nickell’s interest in fine arts.
The Old Stone Presbyterian Women Scholarship was established to assist a student attending classes in Greenbrier Hall on the campus of New River Community and Technical College.
The Robert Patterson Scholarship was established by Dr. and Mrs. Kyle and Ann Fort in honor of Mrs. Fort’s father to assist students attending New River Community and Technical College.
The Donald R. Runyon Scholarship was endowed by Mrs. Shirley F. Runyon in memory of her husband.
The Elizabeth W. Runyon Scholarship was endowed by Donald R. and Shirley F. Runyon in memory of Donald L. Runyon’s mother to encourage and enable students to pursue careers in health sciences.
The John L. Stewart, Jr. Memorial Scholarship was endowed by Rosalie Stewart Detch in memory of her brother John L. Stewart, Jr. to assist a student attending New River Community and Technical College.
The Student Teaching Scholarship was established by an anonymous donor to assist students during the student teaching semester.
Endowed by Dr. and Mrs. Kyle and Ann Fort to encourage and enable students on the New River CTC Mercer County Campus who are pursuing a career in health sciences.
The Neighborhood Investment Program Scholarship was established to assist students attending New River Community and Technical College Mercer County Campus who demonstrate financial need.

The Bickey Family Advanced Technology Center Scholarship was established by Dan, Cynthia, and Matt Bickey to assist students developing technical skills to enter the workforce.
