Marlinton Rotary Club Health Sciences Scholarship

The Marlinton Rotary Club Health Sciences Scholarship was established to provide assistance to graduating seniors from Pocahontas County High School pursuing a career in healthcare.

 Criteria for Selection

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 semester hours.
  • The student must maintain a 2.5 grade point average.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in an Allied Health program at New River Community and Technical College. 
  • Applicants must be a graduate of Pocahontas County High School.

Ruth King Scholarship

The Ruth King Scholarship was established to honor the memory of a beloved employee of the Greenbrier College for Women. Her duties were to ensure the students dressed appropriately for dinner, assisted in teaching the students proper deportment and etiquette, serve as a Resident in the Dormitory, and later in her career served as the Dietician for the Greenbrier College for Women, current site of New River CTC’s Greenbrier Valley Campus. The scholarship was endowed by the family of Ms. King with the support of friends and Greenbrier College for Women Alumni.

Criteria for Selection

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hours.
  • The student must maintain a 2.5 grade point average.
  • Preference will be given to students from Greenbrier Valley that are pursuing a course of study in the hospitality programs.

The Neighborhood Investment Program Scholarship

The Neighborhood Investment Program Scholarship was established to assist students attending New River Community and Technical College.

The Neighborhood Investment Program scholarships are made possible by generous donors to assist students with financial need.

Criteria for Selection

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hours.
  • Students must maintain a 2.5 grade point average.
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need and household income 125% below the federal poverty guideline.

 

Student Teaching Scholarship

The Student Teaching Scholarship was established by an anonymous donor to assist students during the student teaching semester.

Criteria for Selection

  • Applicants must have attended classes on the Greenbrier Valley campus of New River Community and Technical College.
  • The student must be enrolled full-time in the student teaching semester.
  • The student must be accepted in the Education program at Bluefield State College.

John L. Stewart, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

The John L. Stewart, Jr. Memorial Scholarship was endowed by Rosalie Stewart Detch in memory of her brother John L. Stewart, Jr. to assist a student attending New River Community and Technical College.

  • The student must maintain a 2.5 grade point average.
  • Preference will be given to students pursuing a career in business.

Elizabeth Runyon Scholarship

The Elizabeth W. Runyon Scholarship was endowed by Donald R. and Shirley F. Runyon in memory of Donald L. Runyon’s mother to encourage and enable students to pursue careers in health sciences.

Criteria for Selection

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hours.
  • The student must maintain a 2.5 grade point average.
  • Applicants must be admitted to an accredited course of study in health sciences.
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need and household income 125% below the federal poverty guideline.

Donald R. Runyon Scholarship

The Donald R. Runyon Scholarship was endowed by Mrs. Shirley F. Runyon in memory of her husband.

  • Preference will be given to students pursuing a career in business.
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need and household income 125% below the federal poverty guideline.

Robert Patterson Scholarship

The Robert Patterson Scholarship was established by Dr. and Mrs. Kyle and Ann Fort in honor of Mrs. Fort’s father to assist students attending New River Community and Technical College.

Criteria for Selection

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hours.
  • The student must maintain a 3.0 grade point average.
  • The applicant must be a resident of Greenbrier County.
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need and household income 125% below the federal poverty guideline.
